Earthquake in Teheran Measuring 5.9 on the Richter Scale

Teheran, Earthquake shook an area in northern Iran on Friday local time causing damage in three villages and injuring three people, according to the official television station.


Earthquake monitoring center in Iran declared earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale and occurred in the province of Semnan. U.S. Geological Survey states that an earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale.

"A relatively moderate earthquake shook the region in the east (the capital of Iran) Tehran," the state television station said. "Three villages in the area damaged ... and three people injured," he added.

U.S. Geological Survey claimed the earthquake centered about 150 miles south of Gorgan city, north-east of the Iranian capital, at a depth of 10 kilometers. Some people in eastern Tehran was felt shocks.

Iran, the fourth largest oil producer in the world, was crossing the plate earthquake and often experience shocks. In 2003, an earthquake measuring large buildings in the city to make flat desert, Bam, killing 31,000 people.
